about

Noel Kelehan was a dear friend and colleague whose passing in February 2012 was deeply regretted by all in Irish jazz. We welcome here the re-release of OZONE, one of Noel's great achievements.
Back in the 60s Noel had formed The Jazz Heralds, a quintet influenced by Miles Davis, Horace Silver and The Jazz Messengers. The Heralds included Rock Fox (tpt.) and Jim Farley (a.sax), here replaced by Mike Nolan and Keith Donald.
OZONE features three Kelehan originals - Spacer's Delight, I Only Have Time To Say I Love You, and Triers Not Fliers, as well as a sublime reworking of the traditional air The Castle Of Dromore. there are Two originals from Mike Nolan - One For Willie, and Spon Song which he wrote for my band SPON, a ten- piece of the period. In fact Mike, Keith and of course The Wad, drummer John Wadham were founder-members of each band.
OZONE was remastered for CD by Paul Waldron and John Dardis for the Cargo label some time back, and is here re-digitised by Daire Winston and the folks at Beechpark Studios. OZONE is a piece of history. Enjoy.
